Abstract

Learning difficulties are conditions where individuals have obstacles that can make the learning process ineffective so that learning goals are not achieved. This can occur in children with special needs, one of which is children with intellectual disabilities who have obstacles to underdevelopment of intellectual mental development below average so that it can cause obstacles in their learning process which results in children with intellectual disabilities difficulty in learning. For this reason, teachers need to require efforts or solutions that are in accordance with their abilities and can help deal with learning difficulties. This study aims to determine the learning difficulties of children with mild intellectual impairment in Jember State Extraordinary Junior High School and the efforts made by teachers in overcoming learning difficulties of children with mild intellectual impairment in Jember State Extraordinary Junior High School. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive type of research. The results of this study show that children with mild intellectual impairment in Jember State Special Junior High School lie in developmental problems which include cognitive abilities, language skills, communication and social behavior adjustment. In addition, he also experienced academic problems such as the ability to read, write and mathematics. The efforts made by Jember State Junior High School teachers to deal with learning difficulties are by using individual learning processes, providing explanations that are not too fast, giving applicable examples, using image learning media and direct practice, giving regular homework and rewards in the form of praise and small gifts to children with mild intellectual disabilities who have deep development he learned.
